Blog Day 31 August

I receive an email once in a while from Nuffnang and this one is about 6th Blog Day that Nuffnang will be celebrating. Thanks for the email and now I knew that there is such a day dedicated to Blog.
As requested
1. BLUE LADYBLOG
I came to know about this blog and blogger when I attended the  Blogfest Asia 2010 in Penang organised by Bloggercon. The blogger behind this is Kounila Keo, a Cambodian Lady and she’s a AFP Reporter,  who had the opportunity travelling in performing her job. Being a Cambodian and as we knew how English were spoken, I found out that this lady speaks English quite fluently. That goes also to her writings. Being a journalist in Cambodia, a once war torn nation, she speaks out her mind, “ Cambodia seems much worse, and as I said among them all, Cambodian media are only into politics and stuff. Not a day goes by without journalists writing up political pieces just to satisfy a certain politician”.
This blog’s tagline is “It’s not just another Cambodian blog and if you want to read about Cambodian Politics, lifestyle and mind of a Cambodian women, don’t miss this blog. Being a journalist, her posts were written in a journalistic style.

Not In Coverage But Still Can Say Yes

This blog is posted from my new place of residence. I have just moved from the National Sports complex to this new community beginning 1 April. Not far, just about 4.5 kilometre away. Still within the Bukit Jalil area.

I am using Yes as my broadband connection and now the signal stength is just 1 or 2 bar as compared 4 to 5 bars when I was at the National Sports complex. When I checked the speed it was just 34.64Mbps Upload and 0.35 Download at Ping 61ms. I sent a DM to Yescare and was told that my present place is outside the coverage zone and it is good enough if I still can get the signal.
What I was told is that there is two shade of blue showing coverage area and non coverage area. The lighter shade represents not in coverage. Well, if not in coverage why shade it and gave a wrong impression to customer and would be customers.

Tonight I am watching Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian on my desktop and the thumb up is there is no buffering at all eventhough the signal strength fluctuate between one and two bar. I just received a rebate of RM100 from my usage since December 2010 and that is a lot of surfing time which is at 9 cents per 3Mb.

Changes On My Advertisement Banners

I joined a Advertlets, a blog advertising community  since 9th July 2007 at about the same time I registered with another company, Nuffnang. Between these two it seems the latter is more aggressive and  actively organise events for members and is usually open for all. The former too did the same but I see that many of their events cater to close friends and only a few open to other bloggers.

Being business rivals, these companies categorize their members into normal members and premium members. Premium members earn more from advertisement posted on their blogs.

At first I pasted both company's advertisement space on my blog but after sometimes it seems that only one of them actively posted ads on my blog and that made me pull down the other company's banner, even though I did make some money but not eligible to cash out. I really felt left out by the company and that being one of the reason I pulled down their banner but kept my membership intact.

My reaction upgrade my status on the other company from a normal member to Gliteratti member with better perks. However it did not last long enough and I lost the status after I place another advertising banner which seems very slow in generating income (I might pull down the banner one day, maybe if it just does not give me the edge) and then I lost my Gliteratti status. It happen at a wrong timing because I lost the status (and did not realise it) just before I requested my payout and it took me two month before my check is processed instead of 30 days for Gliteratti member. After all I had already received my cheque.

After losing my status, I though what the heck now. So why not put up the first advertisement banner again with all the hope I will get advertisement to balance up. Everything is trial and error. If it is not successful, then why not make more changes. After all, I am paying nothing for all that. So now you can find three banners on my blogs.

@ BlogFest.Asia 2010 -

It was a fruitful weekend for me at the 2nd BlogFest.Asia 2010 held at Wawasan Open University (WOU), Penang. The Fest organised by dotasia.org and mybloggercon.com. The two days at the conference, I learn some new things although some of it is a bit too technical for me as I consider myself not a tech geek. It was all about the new media and empowering it into the limelight as it is the future of communication, to me. The young generation or I am labeling them as cyber generation is slowly overtaking the IT generation.
I was born before Malaysians knew nothing about computers and was exposed to the my first 386 computer in 1983 when I bought a desktop for RM 3,800. It was considered luxury then. Since then I never look back and today into my second half century of living, I consider myself a computer addict but an end user only. I have been blogging since 2006 after reading about the tsunami on jeffooi's screenshot.
I was wondering at first whether I am fit to join the Fest since I am a Malay and the organiser is a Mandarin based blogging community and catering to the bloggers who writes in Mandarin . Another lingering question as to my participation is will I fit in the younger generation due to my age. However, I made a bold move to go ahead.  The first morning I walk from Continental Hotel on Penang road to WOU for two reason. First to take some shots for the Blog Penang contest that I intend to take part and secondly maybe I can get to see the secretariat and take my participant name tag. When I reached the security guard and inquired whether there is the secretariat at the Uni and he said, “Depa baru saja belah.” It might sound rude to first timer who hear the word belah that literally meant had went off but for me being a Kedahan, it is just a normal thing. However after staying in Kuala Lumpur for some years, it was a bit of a “culture shock”. So, my mission on the first day morning failed.
I attended the first day welcome dinner hosted by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia  at QE II. Before landing in the island, I was thinking QEII is some posh restaurant by the seaside somewhere near the Esplanade. I knew that there’s a restaurant there. It was all wrong because QEII is a QEII-The 360 Waterfront Venuerestaurant that serves Western cuisine located at Tanjung City Marina, Church’s Street Pier. Its a place for fine dining and chilling down while being caressed by the cool sea breeze.
The dinner was hosted by Tourism Malaysia and of course I felt lost because I did not know anyone and being sitting alone just enjoying the food and fill after fill of juice. I don’t drink of course. Being a participant I obliged to the  host and I felt a bit relieve when I saw a few Malay participants in the crowd even though I did not make any  advancement to get to know them.
The second day start with a keynote address by Peter Herford from Chung Kong School of Journalism and Communication who do open up our mind about changes…….
During the breakout session I join the Multimedia blogging and its future by Podcaster John Ong and moderated by Willy Wah. Even though I have heard about podcast before but the session that I attended gives me a clearer picture what podcasting all about. It was a video conferencing session between Willy, the participants and John Ong who is in the United States. Note: I am listening to Ongline podcast Ongline #369 Politics to Diet with Vertitable Vergo. Now I am clear what podcast is all about and my conclusion, one need some studio skills, fluent in your podcasting medium , adequate knowledge in the area discussed, good communication skills and a pleasant voice to be a DJ online.  This is the differences between podcasters and bloggers.
The next session was by Ms Masjaliza Hamzah, ED of CIJ Malaysia ; Journalistic Values For Documenting Events via your blogs and followed by Use of New Media in Education by Wawasan Open University and Shantou University lecturer Mr Jeremiah Foo.
I do not know whether there is a shuttle bus from WOU or I missed the bus.  I did not get any message from the secretariat actually. I think the secretariat has to look into this area of communication for future meetings. Since I already missed the bus, I was forced to wait for dinner hosted by Penang State Government in conjunction with Mybloggercon Awards and Asia Blogger Choice Award.
Third Day starts with presentation by representatives from participating countries. The session do give some information about internet and the new media of these countries and followed by an interesting forum discussed by a panel that hail from the two different divide of political parties in Malaysia. I can’t quite remember the names of both panels but one is an MP for Bukit Bendera while the other from MCA.
Three workshops followed. The first that I attended was Wordpress Multisite . However I left early for another workshop since it did not suit my needs and join another concurrent workshop about organising people in the cyber and real world
Photography and Travelogue through blogs ends the workshop sessions. There was a good discussion about  the topic since photo of one of the ingredient of an interesting blog post. However I did not learn much eventhough I am very interested in the topic and from my opinion the secretariat should have invited more successful photo bloggers to share their experiences and expertise.
My suggestion: Since mybloggercon uses the '”my” that represent Malaysia, I think such activities should be open up to all bloggers irrespective of language in their blog postings so that it will reflect the true identity of Malaysia as a multiracial country. Let us show to the world how blogging and the new media as an example and tools of unity irrespective of race, religion and creed and fight for the common cause.
There are still many more local blog celebrities (not celebrity blogger) from Malaysia who has been successful such as Kennysia, Nicole Cocokiss, Redmummy, BeautifulNara, as an example to come and share their experiences in punning traffic and making a living from blogging.
Maybe next time can invite Timothy Thiah too from Nuffnang and share out how Nuffnang can help bloggers earn part time as bloggers. We have to move on from blogging as a hobby to blogging for a living.
Liason, Please in future do not leave out “foreign locals” in future as we need your help too.
Conclusion: I lift my hat to the whole member of secretariat for doing a good job making this Fest a success. You have made Malaysia proud with your effort since this is an International event.

How Can I Mobile Blog?

After reading some blogs that says they post from their mobile, it crossed my mind that I want to go mobile blogging too. With Blackberry in hand I want to make full use of its features or else why own one it you don't stretch it to the limit.

I browse the internet for mobile blogging applications and the best I could find might be go.blogger (Blog On The Go) since I have been using Blogger all this while. Before I can post anything, I have to register first and registration can be done by MMS, SMS or email. I tried all the three options and this is the reply from blogger.

From: postgateway@blogger.com

Device not registered. To create a blog now, send the word REGISTER in an MMS or email to go@blogger.com. By sending REGISTER you agree to the Blogger TOS

I just don't know how to register my device after all the three options have been used and still unsuccessful.

Anybody here in Malaysia has been using go blogger to mobile blog? I need your help.

This Blog Is 5 Years Now

4th May 2006 That's the day this blog started and its her birthday. OMG, I just forgot her birthday and its past two months now. Its already 5 years in existence? It she's human, she will be going to Kindergarten next year and primary school the following year.

This blog is going at a slow pace and I am keeping this blog in English as a training ground so that my English does not rot with time. I know that my spoken English is deteriorating because of lack of use and at times I found out that I have to pause and think (and translating from Bahasa Malaysia to English) what am I going to say. That's how serious I am losing my oral English.

Fail To Land RM 20 Again

Receive and email from Nuffnang informing me that my entry for week 6 was not in the 100 first entry receive. Seems that the contest has fished many bloggers now. I failed too in the 5th week but I can understand because I send in the entry a bit late.I sent in my posting on Wednesday.

For week 6 I sent in on Tuesday and still can't make it into the first 100 entry. So it seems that now bloggers have to stay in front of the monitor or laptop to know whether new tittle for the following week has been posted and send in the entry immediately at the expense of quality blogging. I did that for this week 7 and sent in my entry on Monday itself. I am already demoralized after two subsequent weeks.

I Won The Blackberry

It was one of a memorable night for me after turning into a blogger. Oopppssss...can I call myself a blogger? BTW. anybody who blogs can call himself a blogger right? OK....why it was memorable. I attended the prize presentation ceremony for the Blog4FT blog writing contest organised by the Ministry of Federal Territories and Wellbeing at Sime darby Convention Centre.

I am satisfied for whatever effort I had put into writing and posting my work at ....as I Travel  that I entered for the blog writing contest even though did not win the grand prize. Out of more than 4,000 blogs submitted, to be in the top 25 prize winners is, to me an achievement and motivation.

My blog, the series of Walking-walking Kuala Lumpur had won the special jury prize and I took home a Blackberry Curve and a Celcom Broadband while I won another Celcom Broadband stick for being the Top 5 contributors. The Celcom Broadband stick comes with a free one month subscription.

Now I am officially a Blackberry user. It was a dream to own a Blackberry before this and now I got it for Free.

My Favourite Surfing Spot

The internet revolution is growing fast. Gone are the days when one has to sit in the study or living room to get connected to the internet. I still remember at my office in the 90s, there is only one desktop connected to the internet and downloading files to read takes a big chunk of time. However I am proud that I was among the first few who has the luxury to surf the internet back then on dial-up of course. Besides I am also proud to have the opportunity to follow the internet development from the days of Jaring that are being used mostly by schools as a learning tools. Then come the dial-up followed by Streamyx. After a few years wiereless came into the picture and followed by WiFi.

WiFi has made fast inroad into the surfing experience of Malaysians and the arrival of Broadband generate more interest among net savvy citizen to jump onto the wagon. After a few years of WiFi came the Wimax that covers a wider area. Wimax provide a new surfing experience when users are more mobile and can get connected to the cyberspace anywhere and wherever they one.

I follow all those mentioned development and now I am also riding on the Broadband waves. Wireless Broadband enables me to surf wherever I can. I have turned myself into an internet addict. My surfing experience can be considered as always on.

To be able to get connected to mobile WiFi network one has to use the mobile modem. Malaysia can be considered lucky because the major Telcos has come up with their own Broadband plan and consumer has no trouble to choose the best service suited to their surfing experience. The latest technology that enter the Malaysian market is the Wimax which operates at a faster speed compared to EDGE, HSDPA WAP and 3G. Green Packet being the first operator to launch Wimax introduced a portable modem, Wiggy, for laptop.
Wiggy that run on the USB slot enables user to roam far and wide anywhere in the P1 Wimax coverage. It enable user to surf at a blazing speed of 10 Mbps. Read more HERE.
Everybody has some peculiar lifestyle in doing things. Some are taboo related. Some needs a better environment. This practice of doing things affect surfing lifestyle too. With more mobility people tend to surf at more places not to forget some with their favourite surfing spots.

For me, my favourite surfing spot is my home after work. This is where I will place my netbook (that serve as the CPU) and connected to the monitor. I will be sitting here to surf the internet until I go to sleep.
Yes, this is my favourite surfing spot. First it is near the open balcony and wireless signal is much better. Secondly, I can get cool air for free and thirdly I can look outside to see the green leaves to destress my eyesight and rest my eyes. Too much straining on the computer screen can be a health hazard. A few weeks ago I can even see the KL Tower in the distance from where I am sitting.

I also surf  at the office performing my official assignment and do not depend on my office network.  Wireless Broadband had given me the freedom to surf. Whether its office, home or on the move, I will always be able to get connected and never worry about searching for WiFi Hotspots anymore whenever I travel.

Whenever I travel on assignments four items will always travel with me; my mobile phone, my camera, my netbook and my mobile modem. On the move my favourite surfing spot will be a place where there is comfort and food available. I will choose a place with the wall behind where the monitor screen will not be exposed. The first reason is the screen will be clearer because there will not be any glare and secondly, other people can't see what is on my screen because I want some privacy. You think I want to surf porn, ah? Hahahaha.........Then I will position myself so that I face an open view so that while surfing, I can enjoy my favourite teh 'O' ais limau with either roti canai banjir or cakes or whatever while at the same time can oogle girls passing by....hahahaha.......mata keranjag.....

This posting is done as an entry for the Nuffnang Project Alpha Instant Cash Blogging an avenue for bloggers to earn some pocket money by blogging. Bloggers, you are still not late to join in the contest because it is now in the third week and the Project Alpha will be launched in April 2010. This project has gone into season 2 this year and Project Alpha Season 2 is presented by Adidas Action 3 and supported by P1 and MAS

I Just Love Good Smelling People

Take some time to stare at the picture and concentrate. Just imagine the fresh air and the surrounding greenery. Look around the house and try to feel the freshness. Can you smell the fragrance from this surrounding that is far from the polluted cities and urban environment where most of us live in.
Before you proceed just spare a few moment and practice your concentration skill. Look for some clue that can make this picture smell good.
If you still can't get the feel then there are still other ways to make it happen. And if you can't get the feel did you ask yourself why? Most of us might blame on the old dilapidated house, the compound that can be considered barren without any decoration of flowering plants.

This condition can happen to us living beings. Our body emits smells especially from areas where sweat use to settle. Under your armpit, on your neck, under your chin, behind your ears and in between....oooppppssss...I am not going to mention it. You can guess.

If we go to shopping malls where hypermarket are present, definitely one feature that is present is the perfume section displaying and selling varied brands. There are perfume for women and there are for guys too. Nowadays in modern guys toiletries bag as well as women's handbag one compulsory item is...errrr....no not condom......but deodorants and perfumes. Definitely more in womens handbag because there will be lipsticks, compact powder, mascara etc.

Why take all the trouble to carry all these things around when one can just store it neatly on the dressing table in their home? Just dab them on, spray it wherever necessary and then walk out of the house. But why? For one thing they want to be always smelling good. Perfume and deodorants especially with alcohol content evaporates into the air and thus returning the body to their normal smell. So these have to be renewed because of that reason: smelling good.

Everybody want to smell good. Whether they go out for leisurely walk on weekends, going to work on weekdays or even go to the gym, they still want the environment of smelling good. What is your immediate reaction if you pass by a guy or women who seems to be perspiring with sweat? Do you hold your breath? Well.....err....I use to do that.... the simple answer.....I don't like smelly smells...I just love good smell. So to feel the good smell you must always stay at the beauty counter, do you? Well...maybe not anymore.

You have heard about Adidas? I am sure most of us knew it. When we see Adidas and hear the word Adidas, I am pretty sure what comes into your mind is sports related items: the shoes, the socks, the sport shorts, jerseys, football and other balls with the three black stripe etc. etc. etc. Am I right?

Yes actually you are right. However Adidas did not just stop at sports apparels and items. They have ventured into the smell good market. Adidas has now an array of personal care products tailored for people who lead an active lifestyle under its Adidas Action 3 range. People who lead an active lifestyle really need the right stuff to keep them feeling good. The picture below are some of the prize that i won during the Project Alpha Season I blogging contest. Adidas present every basic requirement for active people. Just look for yourself and I don't think I need to list out the Adidas range of personal care because the picture itself tells the story. Its a full range of products from head to toe and not forgetting your shoes too where the worst smell can originate from. With these, you can leave behind your bad smells.

Then as soon as you leave your bathroom there is still more Adidas Action 3 product for the finale. There's this Adidas Action 3 Dry Max system for both sexes with the tagline Adidas's best defence against sweat with triple action (thus the name Action 3). Get these all new Intensive Anti Perspirant that comes in different condition and needs. With these you can forget the whitening effect because of its anti-whitening effect and hey....for Muslims never worry of using it during prayer. Its 0% alcohol content and Muslims, remember if god loves people who smells good what more we ordinary human being created by Him. Surely we all love to feel good too.

Go, get your Adidas Action 3 because I just love good smelling people.

Blogging And Winning Through 2009

It was a sweet year in 2009 for my blogging experience. I had won a few prizes in blog posting contest and it start with the PJ Blogger Karnival when I won the pre event blog posting contest.

Then when Nuffnang organised the Project Alpha Season I, I submitted weekly postings and won prizes in kind for a few weeks including a First prize for one of the week.

Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Well-being organised Blog4ft contest to urge bloggers write about the Federal Territories in October I start posting blogs and finally I submitted 72 postings and the effort won me the Top 5 contributors. Beside I was listed as one of the 25 winner for the Jury Special prize and I will be taking home a Blackberry 8250 Gemini and Celcom Broadband stick with one month free usage.

Blog4FT Contest Closed

Today the Blog4FT competition closed. After being opened for three months, the competition attracted more than 4,000 blog posts.

I managed to squeeze in as the top five contributors and stand a chance of winning a Celcom Broadband stick with one month of Free usage. At first my hope is of course to win the Grand Prize of a Peugeot 308i but after the first and second month, none of my post win any monthly prize, my hope dashes. If only for December win, I might still stand a chance. However after reading the monthly winners posting, I accept that their blogs are much better and ought to win.

After the contest was closed, I manage to submit 71 blogs and that puts me on the last spot of the Top 5 Contributors. On December 29, I was not in the Top 5 and that is when I work out my strategy. I worked harder to search for materials to write more post but I just published and not submit it to Blog4FT. I did that just to let the guy on the 5th spot with 68 posts gets complacent since he is leading the sixth spot blogger by 5 blogpost and I was trailing at 9th spot with just 60 posts. I just write and keep a low profile because in my opinion, if he see  that there is someone chasing him, he might write more posts and it will be more difficult to beat. I was also hoping that he will not submit more postings.

I intended to submit my posts before the clock ticks 12.00 p.m because that will mark the end of 5th January, the closing date. My intention was to catch him off guard and he will have no time to add more posts because of the time. However lady luck was on my side. I break my promise and started to submit my postings from noon and by 4.50, I submitted my eleventh post that make it 71. To lead by 3 blogs is not very secure, so I submitted another but to find out that the submission had closed and it was 5.00 p.m. Phew, I was lucky to have submitted all my posts before closing time because, I was unaware (maybe other bloggers too) that the closing time is 5.00 pm. So, my strategy works.

Why not vote my blog posts  HERE.

Have You Voted For Me?

For the last few days I have been neglecting this blog because I am concentrating on another blog .....as I travel posting entries for Blog4FT contest. To date I already have 40 posts about Kuala Lumpur and Labuan either base on my past travel or the recently collected information. The contest is still running until 5th of January 2010 and the prize is quite luxurious. What I want to do is to keep myself on the top 10 contributors because by being there, my blog will always be visible on the first page whenever someone visits. I just can't depend on the random entries because blogs listed are picked at random and my name is not always there.

I hope you can help vote for my blogs. 30% of the points will come from readers vote while another 70 from panel of judges.

Blogging for Blog4FT

Yesterday I went to The Pavillion in Bukit Bintang to claim my TGIF voucher that I won during the Nuffnang Project Alpha blog contest. I have to do that fast because the validity date is 16th November 2009. I wrote a post about this trip but am not going to post it here since I have published it as an entry for the Blog4FT blogging contest. The entry was posted at my travel blog As I Travel.....
You can click on the banner below to go straight to that posting and if you are generuous enough, please also vote for me. And, not only this particular blog but also all the other blogs that I had entered so far.

After the Nuffnang Project Alpha ends, now I turn my concentration to the Blog4FT contest that will end on 5th January 2010. While concentrating on the NPA contest, I do neglect a few days the Blog4FT.

When I log in to the website again, I found that there is some improvements where there is a Top 10 contributors. After coming back from Bukit Bintang yesterday, I sit in front of my computer and start blogging. All the effort paid and I manage to put my name as the top 10 contributors. Today I published another blog and at the time of writing this post, I have made to the 5 rank with 19 blogs so far. I still have another blog in draft and hope to get published soon.

I know it will be very difficult to make it to the top three but I hope to make it to at least better than 5ft rank. However there is no prize for top contributors but by being listed as the Top 10, will make my blog always be visible on the front page and hope will get votes coming in. I just can't depend on being listed in the random blog entries because there are times when my blog is not on the list.

Today, I go out to KL again and this time to Pertama Complex. I sat at the Beriani Bistro facing the MARA Building and posted one blog. I surf using the FREE wireless@KL network. Of course the speed is faster than my Maxis Broadband that I use to get connected at home and way way way much better than P1Wimax. For the last 5 days I can't even get any page loaded using that network.

Today I published another series of my blog Walking Walking Kuala Lumpur and click the banner below to read it.

What I Won From Project Alpha Blog Contest

All the seven weekly winners have been announced and out of two entries that I entered for week six and week seven, I only won fifth placing for week six. Fifth means just a consolation prize worth RM430.00. Like it or not I still have to be satisfied that I had won something compared to other bloggers whose entry did not win.

All in all for this Project Alpha contest I had won a total of RM 3200 worth of prizes.

Week 1  - 4th prize
Week 3  - 10th prize

Now just waiting to see who won the Grand Prize and go to Chelsea with Jojo Struys to watch English Premier League.

Waaa.....with this winning, I have 13 tickets to Sunway Lagoon for all Parks and 30 ticket to Pyramid Ice. Now I am thinking how to use the Pyramid Ice tickets before its expired date on 31 December 2009. Besides those I also won two TGIF vouchers that expires this 16th November and I plan to use it this weekend while going out to look for subjects to write entries for the Blog4FT blogging contest. My high tea voucher at Sunway Hotel can be used up later since the expiry date is not so soon.
