The Era of E Card.

I am not sure since when I stop sending Hari Raya cards. Ever since I work at the present organisation, I never buy Hari Raya greeting card anymore. The reason being staff were given free Hari Raya cards to be sent individually. However there still past years cards still in my drawer and not sent. The question is, is Hari Raya card now becoming obsolete? I can still remember, years back when Ramadhan comes, stalls will be set up on five foot ways and roadside selling colourful cards and of various sizes. But the sight is becoming rare now. Most people has turn to the internet to send e-greetings and since a few years back, sending SMS's instead.

Sending e-card is more economical and can help save nature. There will be no trees chopped to produce an e-card. No stamps to be bought and no necessities to store the cards when the festivities ends. One will only pay for the internet charges and time to develop the e-card.

PC Fair 2009 - Subscribe to P1 Wimax

Went to PC fair on Sunday afternoon. This time my plan is to subscribe to P1 Wimax after knowing that my area is now covered. Better still I found out that my area has an overlapping coverage. That should be good news I suppose.

During the lastPC fair in December, I sign up as interest to subscribe because during that time my area is still not covered.

This is the first post using my P1 network. As being claimed, setting up is as easy as plug and play. I connected the modem to my router and my laptop was connected on maximum bar. Now I have a personal network in my home.
My conclusion: They mean what they claim as far as I am concern but not sure what will happen in future. I tried You Tube and it load smoothly too as claimed.

I tried to log on to Wimax website but was returned with a Oops! This link appear to be broken. Not sure was it because the website bandwith has been exceeded due to the massive increase of subscribers due to the PC Fair.

Note: I can't test the speed because Ican't even log into P1 website.

Another Wimax Service Provider

There is another broadband service provider running on wimax already offering their service in Klang Valley. This provider seems to keep itself a low profile comparing P1 Green packet that has been providing service and has gone beyond the Klang valley.

I came to know about it at a computer shop in Sri Petaling. The provider amax.

The brochure listed the coverage areas including Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Technology Park Malaysia, Bandar Sri Petaling, Bukit Anggerik, Taman Manuri, Bandar Kinrara, Subang Jaya and Kelana Jaya. However after checking with their website I found that the coverage is wider. See HERE

Another a factor befoe subscribing to any provider is pricing. According to the brochure, there are two packages at RM99.00 and RM 138 inclusive of the modem. On their website is listed a third package for Enterprise and SOHO Multi-user at RM388. See the package HERE

Was Looking Forward To Wimax, Now Change My Mind

New kids on the block. Wimax is making its presence in this Multimedia Super Corridor that does not keep its promises on the 10 point Bills of Rights. Yes, Wimax is coming to town.

Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (P1) today (19 August 2008 -inserted by this blogger) officially opened its doors for Malaysians to subscribe to its WiMAX services, branded as P1 W1MAX. Yang Berhormat Dato’ Shaziman Abu Mansor, Minister of Energy, Water and Communications was there to officiate the historic accomplishment at the grand launch of P1 W1MAX services. P1’s CEO Michael Lai said, “We are indeed proud of the fact that we have put Malaysia on the world map of WiMAX.

Below is the Charges Table that I copied from their website. For a 1.2 Mbps the monthly charge is RM99 if signed for a 12 month contract. Not sure whether the subscriber has to pay RM 1188 to sign up for the service.

W1MAX subscribers also have to pay a one-time fee (better translate as buy it-by this blogger) of RM999 for a modem. However, P1 is waiving this charge during a month-long promotion period which ends Sept 30 - The Star. So if I were to fork out RM 2187 to subscribe to this service, then forget about it. I still can acces the internet in most areas on Peninsular malaysia with my 3.6 Mbps Maxis Broadband. If thats the case they never learn from MITV the alternative to ASTRO.

P1 W1MAX broadband is now available immediately in the following areas: KLCC, Golden Triangle, Pekeliling, Setapak, Gombak, Seri Rampai, Sentul, Pudu, selected areas in Subang Jaya, USJ 1, USJ 7 and Subang Hi‐Tech area. P1’s deployment is supported by Intel, which recently invested RM50 million (approx. US$15m) in P1’s parent company, Green Packet Berhad. - Lowyat.net.

Note:
I signed up during the PC Fair last August but an email sent by W1max told me that my home is not within the coverage area at the moment. therefor I was not selected for the trial. Erm...to bad.

The Star Techcentral carry this story: Thousands sign up for W1max.

Philip Wong commented this at Lowyat:

If anyone hasn't noted, the word these corporate people use is called "competitive pricing" which translates to "same price lah, ok!" No one has actually broken this hidden agenda for the longest time. Need not look at Brunei, just look at Singapore. For SGD10.35 you get 3Mbps on a freakin WiFi. No need to discuss land lines because they are offering an average of 6Mbps to 10Mbps for SGD100. Talk about 2Mbps for freakin RM229? We have to lobby MCMC to kick ass!

Now that I knew the fee, it seems that W1max will not be in my list of priorities anymore.

Can't Believe This Is Jaring

I just can't believe this is Jaring. My home is just across the road from Jaring in Technology Park, Bukit Jalil. The distance is barely 200 metres away and see the attached picture below. Oh, my god. This is Broadband penetration in Malaysia where we boast of the Multimedia Super Corridor. This is for the wired broadband service. Related posting.

Thanks you for your interest. Your fixed line number is not in the area serviceable by Jaring Wired Broadband.

Jaring sucks too.

Celcom Broadband Sucks (Sorry)

I was missing from this site for a few days.the reason being I find it very difficult to log on to Blogger using my Celcom Broadband. In Kuala Perlis I just get a 230.4kbps speed and getting pages loaded takes me ages. The speed is just not better than the normal Dial-up. At Kuala Perlis, I just get 2.5G and that is one of the reason for the slow speed. At RM68 a month and with just a 368kbps speed I think it is still not a cheap option to Streamyx's RM 88 per month. The only advantage is that Celcom Broadband is mobile.

Last might I found out I am not alone. A friend of mine from Gurun who has just subscribe to the same package complain of the same problem. Slow speed. So all thos advertisements by Celcom is all too good to be true. I hope I get responses from other subscribers and most of all from Celcom themselves. My conclusion, it still sucks but I have no choice.

Tech- Going 3G

Recently I bought a Motorola 3G phone and that means I have entered the 3G world. Then I upgrade my sim card to 65K 3G. Luckily its FREE because after that subscriber was charged RM5.00 to upgrade (if I am not mistaken).

With 3G card now I can make video calls, access the internet and even use my hand phone as a modem for broadband access using my laptop. To date I haven't subscribed to the broadband yet since I am using Streamyx at home. However I have plan to subscribe because I travel a lot and internet has been part of my life. Instead of going to cyber cafes, I can access it from my hotel room, provided there is 3G coverage, of course. Moreover it is cheaper than Streamyx. Presently I am paying RM 88.00 per month for my Streamyx access . I find it not worth continuing subscribing to the package because now TmNET is offering RM 77 for unlimited 1Mbps and if I subscribe to Celcom's unlimited access, I will terminate my Streamyx and resubscribe to the cheaper new package.

I was in Brunei recently and bought another phone of the same make that is Motorola Vmaxx for my wife so that we can get connected using video call. Reason? I subscribe to Celcom's 3 + 1 plan which means between us we can make FREE unlimited voice/video calls, MMS, Voice calls, SMS. All these with an additional RM 5.00 per month.Video call functioning. The call was made from my phone to my wife's. Hmm, so now I can't hide myself anymore if my wife were to call me because the external camera view will show where I am. Just hope when she make the call, there is only 2.5G coverage (LOL)

These are the two phones. The one on the right belongs to my wife and on the left is mine (bought in Brunei). I am not sure whether it is a problem with my phone or common for Motorola phones. Battery is very unsatisfactory. Standby last about 24 hours only and there are times I have to charge the phone twice a day due to fast run down.

Tech- Terestrial TV over Internet

I don't know whether there is a terminology regarding this matter but if there is none I am giving it as TToT just as Voice Over Internet Protocol known as VOIP. I knew about Media Prima providing opportunity to watch their programme over the internet but just today only I tried it out. Todays trial I watched Majalah3, a documentary produced by TV3 . This programme started as early as its birth in the 80s.

Logging in is easy as there is no subscription needed or registration. Below are samples of a TV 3 programme and TV9.

ChannelX Is Not FREE

I visited Car Park A at National Stadium, Bukit Jalil which is not far from my home. It was the Suria FM Green Every Day Convert which started at 4.00 in the afternoon. I thought there would be exhibitions but just promoters involved in sponsoring the programme.

I registered for ChannelX the Celcom's mobile channel content. I was briefed of what I can get by registering online FREE there and then, and I just registered. I can download ring tones, games, movies, graphics etc. that is the in thing for today's mobile communication technology.

However what the promoters fail to brief me is that the service is not free and the price is somewhere from RM2.00 upwards. It was in small print at the bottom of the booklet but I can't find the rate anywhere in their website. Its unprofessional because members will not be aware that what they downloaded is actually NOT FREE.
This is what the user might miss until they find that the credit balance is decreasing.

Rosnah Mat Aris-Kisahnya Belum Habis

Projek NEIS Korea Selatan

IT - Refresh Your Monitor

The Star Home User Thursday Feb 1 2007

A surprising number of computer users can go for years without knowing anything about monitor refresh rates or how to set them.

The monitor refresh rate refers to the speed at which a CRT monitor refreshes its screen images or "redraws" itself. This rate is measured in cycles per second, or hertz (Hz).

The refresh rate impacts a monitor's perceived image quality. If a CRT monitor is refreshing at a slow rate, the picture will appear to pulsate or flicker – a situation that is uncomfortable for users, and which can lead to eye fatigue or even headaches.

Windows will sometimes set monitors to its default rate of 60Hz, which is too low for extended usage. For comfortable viewing, use a refresh rate of 70Hz or higher.

Most monitors can be set to 70Hz, 72Hz, 75Hz or 85Hz refresh rates, while some monitors allow for rates as high as 100Hz.

To change this setting in Windows XP, right-click on the desktop, and then choose Properties. Click the "Settings" tab, and then click "Advanced". Under the "Monitor" tab, lies the screen refresh rate options.

New Category - IT and Technology

22 Feb 2007

Today I start a new category on this blog. I am using the same blog since I have created too many blogs before and difficult for me to manage. With this category I hope Xperienceoflife will be a one stop centre for IT and Technology related information. To search for this category readers can choose either from the categories - IT, technology, multimedia or internet.

Articles in this categories will be uploaded information from other sources on the internet which I think will be of help to readers when it comes to computer related technology.

Beli Multimedia Speaker Baru

So aku just beli yang murah RM 29.00 saja.
