I Need Help. Is This Due to Facebook Virus?

I have been facing some difficulty with Facebook on my desktop PC and Laptop. It starts a few weeks back when clicks does not response. Then I have to refresh before it works. This morning the Facebook nightmare gets worse. I think the problem is on my laptop. My wife who is using the PC experience some problem with FB on Mozilla, switched to Google Chrome and she can then surf with ease.

When I logged in to my account and click LIKE, or do anything on FB it all will lead to this blank page with the URL.

Then if I refresh the page this error message appears. Even if I click Continue, it will go back to the same page.
For your info I tried on Google Chrome, Mozilla and even on IE, all produce the same result. I think there  is already the virus thread on my PC that block pages being loaded. My antivirus is McAffee that comes together with my laptop that I bought last December.

I hope someone can come to my rescue before I proceed to my last resort that is to reformat the laptop.

Web Intrusion

I received a message from Google regarding an intrusion into my email account. Google warned me that an unknown person tried to access my Gmail. Google advised me to change my password and I heed the advice.

account intrusion1

I did not expect that my there is someone interested in my email and tried to open it.

With today’s advancement in software technology, such intrusion will become a normal activity especially when one is not well protected.

Lately there is some weird activity on Facebook chat function. A few time I received chat request from known friends which turn out to be something suspicious after a few times. The chat box pops up and it is from someone you know with a greeting. Once answered he/she will ask with this question, do you wanna laugh? With your response your ‘friend’ will send you a link. Luckily I did not click on any link. At first I thought it’s a genuine ‘hi’ from my friend. After a few times receiving the same operation, I guess its some sort of malware or phishing activities.

No More Movie Freebies From Net

MCMC has blocked all the above sites and internet users will not be able to download anymore FREE movies. Well, bad news for many internet users, I suppose, and it is just a temporary one. These are all man made. In time to come there will be new sites set up to do all these nasty jobs. Nothing that human create is invulnerable. Therefore, how far can we fight piracy?

Just like when Astro created its Astro First to screen paid movies to viewers, it's a new avenue for the public to watch new movies without going to the cinema. There are already recorded VCD of movies screened over Astro First circulating around for those who want to skip the cinema or pay the unnecessary subscriptions to .

Not In Coverage But Still Can Say Yes

This blog is posted from my new place of residence. I have just moved from the National Sports complex to this new community beginning 1 April. Not far, just about 4.5 kilometre away. Still within the Bukit Jalil area.

I am using Yes as my broadband connection and now the signal stength is just 1 or 2 bar as compared 4 to 5 bars when I was at the National Sports complex. When I checked the speed it was just 34.64Mbps Upload and 0.35 Download at Ping 61ms. I sent a DM to Yescare and was told that my present place is outside the coverage zone and it is good enough if I still can get the signal.
What I was told is that there is two shade of blue showing coverage area and non coverage area. The lighter shade represents not in coverage. Well, if not in coverage why shade it and gave a wrong impression to customer and would be customers.

Tonight I am watching Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian on my desktop and the thumb up is there is no buffering at all eventhough the signal strength fluctuate between one and two bar. I just received a rebate of RM100 from my usage since December 2010 and that is a lot of surfing time which is at 9 cents per 3Mb.

Why I Switched From Maybank2U to CIMBclicks

Many of us have been using the convenience of online banking for fast and easy transactions. It is no doubt that we agree the usefullness of using online banking for most transactions because it can be done at the comfort of our own home.

Many too have been using Maybank2U facilities, me inclusive. But since early last year I was forced to stop using Maybank2U facilities ever since I forgot my password and my account was blocked. I know the best solution is to contact the customer service which I did. Failing the first trial, I did a second. Both ended up with a failure. Them main reason is the customer service fail to respond to my request for unblocking the account. I had to wait in vain and loosing money to my phone provider and in the end nothing fruitful.

Maybe the customer service at their office is very busy even at midnight.

I called personally at one of their e-banking outlet and the answer is I have to call the customer service, which is the same number. I gave up.

Recently I experience the same situation with CIMBclicks. They changed the password from 10 to 8 units. I can’t log in to my account.

I went to the bank and, I lift off my hat because the customer service is so efficient. When I inquire at the front desk, the lady on duty immediately called their customer service using their own phone and within 10 minutes, everything was settled. The lady put her best effort to sort out and that’s the way customer service should be.

That’s hoe I switched my online banking experience from a suppose to be the largest bank in Malaysia to another.

I think customer service is one way one can loose customers.

For those on Social Websites - A Reminder

Please spare a few minutes to read this...It’s an eye opener.

From time to time we have been advised on the negative side of social websites. Most advise is about the dangers that lurk on such websites when members tend to forget and reveal private matters to strangers and all over the world. I receive this email and it might have been travelling around the globe for sometimes but it is still valid to be read as a reminder so that more and more people are vary of what they post on the internet especially on social websites. This does not involves Facebook alone.

- Very important message, please read to the END.
It's a good reminder even though we may know (or not) all this about Facebook.  One other good practice is about Instant Personalization:
·  The New Face Book Privacy setting called "Instant Personalization" goes into effect. The new setting shares your data with non-Facebook websites & it is automatically set to "Enabled".
·  Go to Account > Privacy Settings > Apps & Websites > Instant Personalization >edit settings & uncheck "Enable". BTW If your friends don't do this, they will be sharing info about you as well. Please copy and repost

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE AN ACCOUNT ON FACE BOOK - BEWARE!

"The information people give out on Facebook, when linked up with other information freely available on the internet, is an absolute goldmine for criminals," the Daily Mail quoted Michael Fraser, a reformed burglar who presents the BBC's 'Beat The Burglar' programme, as saying

"One year, you might have a party and give out your address. A while later, you might tell everyone that it is your 30th birthday.

"So, if you've accepted me as a friend of a friend, I know your name, your address and your birth date.

"From that, I can go to 192.com or 192.com usa and on there I can find out what you do for a living, how much your home is worth - and whether you're likely to be worth burgling

I might have already made up my mind because you've posted party pictures on Facebook and I can see what kind of valuables you have in the house - and which rooms they're in. Then you go and tell your Facebook friends how much you're looking forward to going on holiday next Tuesday.

"I can go on to Google Street View and see actual photographs of your home. I can see if you have a burglar alarm, or whether there are any bushes in the garden to hide in. And I can see all the alleyways I can escape down. And, of course, I know you won't be at home.

"Once you accept a stranger into your Facebook account, they can begin what we call social engineering - delicately asking questions to build up information about you,' said Jason Hart, senior vice president of CRYPTOCard Network Security.

"And that can cause havoc. Let's say they got your email address, then they could go to your email account pretending to be you and saying you have forgotten your password.

"Once they have that secret information, the email account will let them in. And once they are in there, they can find lots of sensitive information, such as your Amazon and eBay account history.

"They can then go to those sites pretending to be you and saying you have lost your passwords, and guess what happens then?

"Those sites send the passwords to your email account - the one that they have already conned their way into.

"Crooks who do this usually use the credit card details you have stored there to buy online gift vouchers that can be traded on the internet. It is a form of instant currency.

"Even worse, if you have a PayPal account and have credit in it, your so-called friend could clean it out. (Me: Thats why it is very dangeruous to reveal your email password to friends because Paypal account uses your email ad account profile)

"Effectively, they have become an electronic version of you, they can change all your passwords and begin stealing from you.

The world is a dangerous place not because of people who do evil, but because of good people who look on and do nothing about it.

Facebook Will End On 15 Mac 2011

It might be bad news of year 2011 to many but it is also good news for many. Yes, Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he will close down the website that took the world by storm and changed how people interact online. Photo and news below are copied from the Weekly World News website.

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts.

“After March 15th the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business.”

Zuckerberg said that the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset.

“I personally don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said in a private phone interview. “And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”

Some Facebook users were furious upon hearing the shocking news.

“What am I going to do without Facebook?” said Denise Bradshaw, a high school student from Indiana. “My life revolves around it. I’m on Facebook at least 10 hours a day. Now what am I going to do with all that free time?”

However, parents across the country have been experiencing a long anticipated sense of relief.

“I’m glad the Facebook nightmare is over,” said Jon Guttari, a single parent from Detroit. “Now my teenager’s face won’t be glued to a computer screen all day. Maybe I can even have a conversation with her.”

Those in the financial circuit are criticizing Zuckerberg for walking away from a multibillion dollar franchise. Facebook is currently ranked as one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, with economists estimating its value at around 7.9 billion.

But Zuckerberg remains unruffled by these accusations. He says he will stand by his decision to give Facebook the axe.

“I don’t care about the money,” said Zuckerberg. “I just want my old life back.”

The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased.

Changes On My Advertisement Banners

I joined a Advertlets, a blog advertising community  since 9th July 2007 at about the same time I registered with another company, Nuffnang. Between these two it seems the latter is more aggressive and  actively organise events for members and is usually open for all. The former too did the same but I see that many of their events cater to close friends and only a few open to other bloggers.

Being business rivals, these companies categorize their members into normal members and premium members. Premium members earn more from advertisement posted on their blogs.

At first I pasted both company's advertisement space on my blog but after sometimes it seems that only one of them actively posted ads on my blog and that made me pull down the other company's banner, even though I did make some money but not eligible to cash out. I really felt left out by the company and that being one of the reason I pulled down their banner but kept my membership intact.

My reaction upgrade my status on the other company from a normal member to Gliteratti member with better perks. However it did not last long enough and I lost the status after I place another advertising banner which seems very slow in generating income (I might pull down the banner one day, maybe if it just does not give me the edge) and then I lost my Gliteratti status. It happen at a wrong timing because I lost the status (and did not realise it) just before I requested my payout and it took me two month before my check is processed instead of 30 days for Gliteratti member. After all I had already received my cheque.

After losing my status, I though what the heck now. So why not put up the first advertisement banner again with all the hope I will get advertisement to balance up. Everything is trial and error. If it is not successful, then why not make more changes. After all, I am paying nothing for all that. So now you can find three banners on my blogs.

What Is This Foursquare Message About?

Image representing Foursquare Solutions as dep...Image via CrunchBase
Found out some changes on Foursquare but it seems that there is no information about it. What it is all about. You can't get information about foursuqare badges if you search it on www.foursquare.com. The information is only available on other websites such as Wikipedia. Why Foursquare so stingy about information of the application to users? Another example is if you look at the screen print page I attached to this posting, you can see some blue dots scattered around the map.  One might ask what is this blue dot all about? My guess is location of users in the area. Well, anybody has some information?     That is only one of the guessing users have to make on 4square.

Beware Of SMS Traps

Every now and then people get trapped on their mobile phone with unnecessary SMS messages that has no value at all. Mobile phone users tend to fall prey to such scams when they fail to read the small Terms and Contract somewhere on the page. These contracts are usually written in small letters because people usually skip reading sentences printed in small letters.
I would like to share this as an advice. I was surfing on a website and really the Ultimate Brain Test question (or is it the silhouette graphics of the ballerina) did attract me to click the answer. I thought base on the ballerina movement, I clicked the answer and the result will appear. However, it lead to a set of another 10 questions and I clicked and answered all the questions. After finishing all ten answers this page appear. I am supposed to key in my phone number and they will send the answer for my Ultimate Brain Test.
Before I start to key in my phone number, maybe my sixth sense asked me to read the small print below and this is what the Terms look like.

This is a sound subscription content service. The sound subscription content is compatible with most phones. The extra content will be send after you’ve subscribed to our sound subscription. Upon subscribing, you will receive 2 chargeable messages at RM4 per message. Service is charged at RM4 per message, 4 chargeable messages per week. Normal mobile operator network charges apply. Age: 18+ only - ask bill payer's permission. Unsubscribe? To cancel send ‘STOP’ to 36622. Helpdesk: 03 – 2175 4700 (9.30am – 5.30pm (Mon – Fri). By sending an SMS to 36622, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the ‘General Terms & Conditions’ and agreed to be bound by these 'General Terms & Conditions'. Service Provider: Ericsson (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

If I were to have taken the wrong move to key in my phone number, I can be a victim of the company. Just imagine I have to pay RM 16.00 per week and amounting to RM 64.00 per month for some stupid SMS.

Tweetering Into Fourth Year

I did not realise that I registered and posted my first tweet at 10.50pm on 11th July 2007. So when the clock strike 12.01 on 12th July 2010, I'll be going into my fourth year on tweeter. When I registered my profile with tweeter, the application was not as popular among internet savvy individuals and/or bloggers. After registering I just left my profile there and as far as I can remember, I get serious tweeting only in early 2009 after reading and hearing other people talk about tweeting.
Today tweeting has become as popular as blogging and it can be a source of advertising, messaging, babbling and promoting hate etc. Tweeting has become another source of instant information for mobile internet. I am sure most if not all who can access the internet on their mobile phone has tweeter account and tweets.

UniFi - Is It Worth Subscribing?

The answer lies to the individuals. For me it is nor worth. At RM 149 for 5Mbps it is unaffordable considering todays cost of living.

UniFi comes with:

  • Hi Speed Broadband
  • IPTV
  • Free Voice call
When I want to subscribe to Broadband, Yes, I need the high speed but is it confirmed that as a consumer I can get the speed that I wanted? Wimax was promised to change the surfing lifestyle of internet user with higher speed and one company has the gut to tell us that they provide the highest speed on the cyberhighway. However when I subscribed, I only get shitty speed and not much better than an ordinary dial up and wired internet connection. Service provider will always hide behind the 'at best effort' tagline to cover their weaknesses and unability to provide that is promised.

What is IPTV service actually? Will it be providing the same channel as what is provided by ASTRO? If so then why waste more money when ASTRO is already too high a cost for the consumer to pay. I think IPTV is not a necessity to be bundled with the UniFi and consumers are forced to subscribe to services that they don't need. Why must subscribers subsidise TM for the IPTV subscription that they linked to. Malaysians have more than enough time being glued to the 'idiot box' and then again to the desktops then again with Blackberrys on the streets, we are losing our social life to technologies. So, I don't need the IPTV service.

UniFi also comes with Free voice calls. It is really basic needs today. Everybody need to make voice calls either for social relationship and business etc. Above all it is free. Now do I have to carry my desktop or laptop around so that I can make free voice calls?. It is much better to carry my mobile phone for voice calls.  I am not going to talk all day after all.  Of course this statement make me look stupid. Hahahaha........

With UniFi and NBI what has the consumer to gain after all.

This Annoying Pop Up

I use to receive this annoying pop-ups for an on-line university degree. This happens often happens when I wanted to view my blog after being posted. Today I receive this pop-up again everytime I click to view my blog after posting. I enable pop-up blocker on my netbook and maybe that's the reason it appears on the main page.

Then I found out that the problem is with the FREE Geobytes addin. Worse it this statement "Earn-your-degree.com has no control over that or any other pop-up advertising. "

So. now the question is do I have to delete my Geobyte addin? I am not ready to be a Premium member because there is not much benefit from upgrading.

Broadband : I am Not Alone When P1 Wimax Sucks

Seems that I am not all alone facing the stress of using P1Wimax broadband service and Maxis Broadband. I have posted a few entries in this blog before and even on my Twitter and Facebook to vent my anger to send a message to Green Packet that their broadband service sucks. In this entry, I copy and paste two complain letters sent to the Editor of  NST .complaining about poor broadband service too.

I just wonder why PM is so anxious to proceed with Mega Speed Internet when the service provider can't even solve basic broadband service.

My P1Wimax experience is just all nightmare. Even though if the signal shows green, I still couldn't get the first page loaded , what more to carry out the speed test. I sent a twitter message #P1Wimax but there is no response. However they are very efficient about reminding me of my subscription due date by sending an email and SMS to my phone but service is taik kuching.

BROADBAND: Have quality checks on their services

2009/11/09
L.K.K. , Petaling Jaya
I HAVE been a Maxis mobile broadband subscriber since February last year.
As a heavy user, I find the quality and availability of this service are getting from bad to worse, even in populated areas and commercial centres in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur where I live and work.

I am experiencing very slow upload and download speeds (it takes up to 10 minutes to send a 1MB file and up to a minute to open a single webpage).

Disconnection occurs every five to 10 minutes.

Many Maxis customers have experienced the same problem. There were two other occasions this year when I had to complain to Maxis that I could not even log in into the network.

The reason is obvious. Maxis is not investing enough to increase the speed and bandwidth of its 3G and 3.5G networks.
Therefore, when there are many users in the same area, broadband speed slows.

If Malaysia wants to be a leading country in information and communication technology, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission must enforce key performanceindicators by conducting regular field tests on service providers, be it mobile, wireless or cable.

Service must be up to mark in terms of quality, measured on the basis of average upload and download speeds, and overall availability of service over a specific period in a populated area.

Those who fail the tests should be given a heavy penalty for non-compliance.

The commission should also encourage service providers to invest in new technologies with higher connection speeds and wider bandwidth to replace networks that will soon become obsolete.

Japan and Korea have done well in this aspect as otherwise they would not be recognised as the few countries in the world with leading information technology and wide broadband adoption.

BROADBAND SERVICE: It's our right to demand our money's worth

YUVARAJ, Kuala Lumpur
I REFER to L.K.K.'s complaint about broadband services ("Broadband: Have quality checks on their services" -- , NST, Nov 9) and would like to relate my experience with another broadband service provider.

I live in Sri Segambut and have been a P1 Wimax subscriber since February.

I am not a heavy user but my two sons, who are college students, use this service regularly.

Initially, we were impressed and satisfied with the P1 Wimax service. But for the past few months, we have been experiencing very slow speeds (both upload and download).

The service is also not stable. On some days, we have experienced interruptions for many hours.

My sons have checked with their friends living in Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya and found that they, too, have experienced the same problems with the P1 Wimax service.

I am very disappointed with the failure of P1 Wimax to provide reliable service to its subscribers.

As L.K.K. says, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) must ensure that broadband service providers do not fail their subscribers.

It is the responsibility of the MCMC to conduct regular and thorough checks on all the Internet service providers and impose penalties for non-compliance.

After all, when these service providers are prompt in demanding their payments on the due date, why should their subscribers not demand that the services provided are also prompt and reliable?

With the poor service by Green Packet I wonder why they are given the licence to operate G4 service.

Mega Speed Huh?

The front page news is so nice to hear. This is the front page news today. The same was being told to us when we are going into wimax internet. After the service rolls out, subscribers get shit speed from P1.

The Era of E Card.

I am not sure since when I stop sending Hari Raya cards. Ever since I work at the present organisation, I never buy Hari Raya greeting card anymore. The reason being staff were given free Hari Raya cards to be sent individually. However there still past years cards still in my drawer and not sent. The question is, is Hari Raya card now becoming obsolete? I can still remember, years back when Ramadhan comes, stalls will be set up on five foot ways and roadside selling colourful cards and of various sizes. But the sight is becoming rare now. Most people has turn to the internet to send e-greetings and since a few years back, sending SMS's instead.

Sending e-card is more economical and can help save nature. There will be no trees chopped to produce an e-card. No stamps to be bought and no necessities to store the cards when the festivities ends. One will only pay for the internet charges and time to develop the e-card.
