Thats the amount of sugar consumed by Malaysian daily on average. It was in 2005. This year we are ranked as the world's eight highest sugar user. Thats good mah.....after all with the Malaysia Boleh spirit, we want to be the best in the world. We want to be the first in everything. So when are we going to hit the worlds highest sugar user. I think this does not include sugar daddy and sugar mummies.
In the 70s,Malaysians only consumed17 teaspoons of sugar per person ber day. Consumer's Association of Penang is confident the number has increased this year because the figure of 26 teaspoons daily was in 2005.
Sugar is linked to 60 ailments such as cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart problems, osteoporosis, kidney problems, asthma and allergies. Malaysia also sits at a good ranking of having the fourth highest number ofdiabetics in Asia with 800,000 cases in 2007 and expected to increase to 1.3 million in 2010.
