Many Malaysian today are aware that the most talked about topic will be the Permatang Pauh by election and it has been considered the mother of all by election. The reason being that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be contesting in his former constituency after missing in action for 10 years due to political conspiration. Nomination day has been set up for 16th August and if there is a contest, voting will be held on 26th August. The result of the by election is seen as charting the future of Malaysian politics. It is expected to be the downfall of BN if the election is conducted fairly which most Malaysian don't think so. Unfair managing of election has been going on for a long time whereby election commission play the game to the ruling party's need.
One of the unfair tactics used by the government is vote buying. In Kelantan the Malays can be bought by just a piece of batik or sarong and RM 50.00. That is the value or an orang Melayu. Now in Permatang Pauh, buying of votes is going to start. mStar report that the governement will implement the distribution of subsidised daily requirement directly to rural areas. The distribution of goods direct from the supplier to sundry shops is a measure to make sure supply is enough and at the price suggested by the government. This was disclosed by Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs, Datuk Shahris Abdul Samad. While the measure taken is good but launching at the wrong place to the wrong target is much regretted. The reason is why of all the rural areas Seberang Perai Utara being chosen instead of the more needy in other parts of the country. People in rural and remote areas is Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan need to be given priority in this launching. Those in Seberang Perai Utara some lives just a stone throw away from the nearest shops compared to those sundry shops who are miles away from the nearest supplier.
But why Seberang Perai Utara and not the needies from Sebrang Perai Tengah or Selatan? The answer is clear. It is due to the Permatang Pauh by- election which BN is looking forward of losing. They will do everything they have up their sleeves to keep them afloat after being hit by the Tsunami on March 8 this year.
Is this not tantamount to buying votes?
