Royal Malay Regiment to guard Queen Elizabeth II
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malay Regiment has been selected to perform the prestigious “London Public Duties” in England. The 1st Battalion will represent the regiment.
Malaysia is the fourth Commonwealth nation after Canada, Australia and Jamaica to be given the honour to perform the Public Duties, which has a ceremonial and historic significance.
Their duties:
Basically, Public Duties are divided into two tasks. The first is the “Queen’s Guard” where the regiment will guard the Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace and Tower of London.
The second is "Windsor Castle Guard,” where the regiment will guard Windsor Castle, one of the Queen Elizabeth II residences.
I am proud in the first place that our Armed Forces, out of all Commowealth countries, has been given the credit, trust and honour to perform that "London Public Duties" in England. It will chart another history for the Malay Regiment particularly and Malaysia in general. The soldiers who are going to England too will be among the happy ones because overseas allowances is higher than domestic duties.
On second thought, I do not feel that proud after all after reading what their duties are, i.e. to be guards. Maybe to England and the Malaysian Arm Forces, they felt it is an honour, but to me I felt humiliated because they are performing guard duties and not the usual task as they had been serving United Nations. I feel more proud when our soldiers are called for UN duties because they can come back as worriors of peacekeeping but not going as guards.

We achieved our Independant 50 years ago but our mind are still colonialised. We still see and look upon our colonial master with high respect and that orang putih are better than us in all aspects. Local expertise are usually looked down at and not given any trust. But an orang putih with the same expertise or less are regarded as highly qualified. Our mind are still pre 1957.
No doubt every race is created equal but the level of education and vocational skills received makes them differ but that does not justify us to degrade our own expertise. We can learn from others for something better or that we do not know but not to the extend of high praise compared to our own people.
Malaysia Boleh was created to give Malaysians the motivational spirits but the over reaction of the ruling party that exceed beyond normal practices rendered the slogan its sinistic status. Let us look at Malaysia Boleh as a level playing field between our Malaysians and foreigners in all aspects and not Malaysia Boleh as a licence to do anything at the whim and fancies of BN.
Malaysians should be given due respect where respect is deserved.
