September 13th 2007= 1 Ramadhan 1428

Today is 1st Ramadhan marking the beginning of the holy month where Muslims are compulsory to fast from dawn till dusk. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Muslims all over the world Happy Ramadhan and hope everyone can fulfill their obligation to Allah since Ramadhan just come once a year.

Marking th beginning of Ramadhan is an earthquake near Bengkulu at 7.49.01 and measuring 7.5 on the Ritcher Scale. It is a warning from the Almighty that we humans are weak and if He need to He will just make things happens. As a Muslim we have to believe without doubt that whatever happens in our life good or bad is all at the hands of god. (Remember DSV told us during landslides sometime ago?). In the Surah Yasin of the Holy Quran He cited "kun fa yakum" literally translated, if He wants it to happen it will happen.

I arrived home last night at about 1.00 p.m after driving from Kota Bharu, Kelantan at 2.00 in the afternoon. I thank god for taking me back home in one piece on my old faithful, a 1991 Proton Saga. The drive was an enduring one since I am alone in the car.

I was still in bed because today I decided to take leave and it is one of the rare occasion I take it. Actually I don't have the time to take leave since on my outstation assignments I consider it an official paid leave cum self tourism. I will only be busy on the first and last day and in between I am quite free and that is considered a rest period for me, just that I am not with my family if I take the normal leave. The reason why I take leave is that my health is not in good situation. I was coughing for the past few days and it was quite bad. Maybe the extreme and sudden change in weather been the cause if it. I was at Awana, Genting highlands for 5 days and drive down to KL at noon. Then late the same day I drive to Kota Bharu and the sudden change of the environment took a toll on my health. I am recovering today.

While in bed this morning, I was awaken when I felt the bed shaking and I sensed it might be an earthquake somewhere in Indonesia. Luckily I am trained not to panic and I can cope with the situation. I told my wife the bed shook much more than when we are performing our duty as husband and wife (LOL). Suddenly my son (who did not go to school today) told me that many of the occupants of our apartment building were gathering on the ground. Well, they have the reason to run for shelter. But for me I am still calm in the comfort of my house. To me it is just a continuation of the earthquake wave that happens more than 600 metres away and why must we panic? If it were in Putrajaya or some nearby place then there is a reason to take the necessary precautions.
