This month of August is Merdeka month. This is the month where most of us will start remembering that we have achieved independence. Or do we really achieve independence? I am not blogging about the status of independence but about our national sovereignty- the Jalur Gemilang (JG). Every year after 1998, the Information ministry and some other leaders will urge Malaysians to fly the JG. Ministers have to 'beg' the people to fly the JG which was done voluntarily before DSAI was victimised by the former PM. No, I am not blogging about pre or post DSAI tragedy. I want to blog about JG.
Every now and then when come August, we can hear or see our JG being used creatively. But at times we see the creativity of using the JG is not in place which does not give it due respect as a national image to be praised of. A flag needs to be respected and hence should be flying high. I can still remember when I was in the scout troop during my school days we are taught to respect our flag. We are taught how to fly the flag and at no time let it touch the ground.
However today when we come to merdeka month, we can see JG strewn on highways and roads after being fallen by the wind on a speeding car. And the JG will then being run down by other vehicles. Is it a sign of respct to JG?. There are even creative individuals turning JG into attires and wear them with great honour (they might think so). If we look back only great leaders and heroic corpses are covered with flags. But now its living human being draped by flag. Should our national pride be pasted on the buttock or on the chest of a voluptuous beauty with bouncy boobs walking around Bukit Bintang.
I think there should be regulation on the use of the JG. There should be rules on where an how the JG should be used. I don't fly the JG ever since post DSAI tragedy because I love Malaysia. I am showing my silent protest that Malaysia should be run by sincere leaders and not who do whatever he likes to someone innocent just to protect his political career. period.
I don' t think JG is being respected here. This guy might go to the loo wearing this JG dress and part of the flags in the hands of the girls definitely is lying on the ground.

Agree with you. JG should be respected and not be turned in to something too commercialise (sorry if wrong word).
Some even 'steal' JG, like the type that stick to cars.
