No More Fast Food Advertisement On TV

Today the cabinet took a positive move to protect children from falling into the fast food culture. The cabinet agree to ban these fast food companies to sponsor children programmes or advertise when these program were aired. I would like to suggest there should be no fast food advertisement before 10.00 pm because before this time usually children are still awake. Another area to be taken into account is not to advertise the promotion of toys that come with them. Most children usually are tempted to buy the toys and not the food. There is also an advertisement of a mother who is shopping maybe for dinner with her family and when she found that the queue the cashier is too long she opted for fried chicken. This is a negative feedback. It seems parents too are promoting the habit of taking fast food.

I know this action by the cabinet create uneasiness and maybe anger among the fast food operators because they are making money by influencing the children to take their parents to the restaurants. And children is their target group to increase sales. One reason is by competing among themselves to promote sales of toys in their advertisement.

However, banning the advertisement during children programmes does not affect the fast food outlet because the name is already in the mind of children. And when they think of eating outside, the first thing that most children will suggest is KFC or Pizza Hut (e.g; my kid) Children do watch programme catering the older category audience and they will in one way or another will still be exposed to the advertisement. Therefore,
banning the advertisement is not the only way to slow down the fast food dependent culture. Look into the toys too.

My son will be going for an outdoor study trip sometime this month by his school and on the menu is KFC. And he is looking forward for the trip because of KFC and not the educational experience of the trip. Of course I always discourage my kids from taking fast food and when he mention KFC, I will just say to him America and he understands that KFC is one company that is helping Isreal.
