Do We Have Herd Mentality?

The Star reports increase sales in badminton racket. Well, it must be due to the Malaysian doubles winning two championship within a month. That means there will be more badminton players in the country and the pair of Koo Kien Kiat and Tan Boon Heong must look behind their back because there will be new shuttlers going to take over from them. AsJeff Ooi put in his blog; We understand we have to honour our badminton aces as national heroes when they return home today. And like herd mentality usually has it, racquets are now selling like hot cakes. We have seen it all before, haven't we?

The pair's winning performances – they bagged the 2006 Asian Games gold and won the Malaysian Open, All-England Championships and Swiss Open titles – may have sparked a revival of interest in badminton. -The Star.

I could still remember during my schooling days in the 70s when Malaysia won the Thomas Cup the badminton wave hit all over the country. Make shift Badminton courts appears like mushrooms after a rain spell. I too set up a badminton court in front of my house an a badminton team. We use to have friendlies with other "clubs" from time to time.

Then the hockey wave hit the country when Malaysia get a 4th placing in the World Cup held in Ipoh, Perak. tree branches were cut down to make hockey sticks and that was when I started playing hockey(No lah, I never represented even the school team). So do we really have herd mentality?
