On 1st November 2006, Asia News Network, Nelson Benjamin wrote about Singapore to become a wireless city whereby the whole island of singapore will be connected wirelessly. One just need a wifi enabled device to log on to the internet.
The report says Singapore Premier announced that it will be done next year when only the South Johor Economic Region (SJER) will be wirelessly connected in 3 years time.

- The irony is that this country saw the future way before the others. The Multimedia Super Corridor was truly visionary. Yet we failed on implementation and timing. other countries started later and yet are threateing to edge ahead of us soon.
- Our neighbour, Singapore offers broadband subscribers speeds up to ten times faster than what we get from Streamyx.
- Japan and South Korea are further advanced
