Life Without Internet

Myself like thousandsof others have been hogging on to the internet daily and for people like me it has become anotherbasic needs. Just like having a handphone. However I have experience life without internet access.  I was in Sipitang Sabah staying at a hotel beside the sea. Nice 5 rooms ex government rest house now run by a private company. The rate is cheap @ RM65.00 per night. The TV set only has Star Movie/HBO controlled from the reception maybe. So guest have no choice but to swallow what the man who control the ASTRO remote device wants to see.

For me internet is part of my daily necessities. As soon as I checked in, I switched on my laptop and plug in my Maxis Broadband modem. I foresee, there will be no access since it is 144 km away from Kota Kinabalu. I just wanted try my lady luck. Then I tried my Celcom Broadband. I know I can't get it connected using my phone since I can't install my phone software on my new laptop. I tried using the 3G modem built in on my netbook but the modem seems not reading the sim card. Maybe due to conflict because I am using the external Huwei modem. I know the technician at my netbook service centre advised me not to install any external modem because it will create conflict. But I have no choice since I am using the Maxis Broadband for all my internet connection on my other laptop and when I am at the office. So the move the sim card and insert into the netbook and vice versa is quite a hassle. On my netbook I have to take the battery out since the sim card slot is concealed inside the battery slot.

So, for the duration of 5 days in Sipitang, I was disconnected from the cyberworld and I felt how bored life is without the internet since we are used to living in that world at present.

Why Malaysians Can't Take The Pool

Every Friday evening my son will ask me to take him to the National Aquatic Centre at Bukit Jalil Sports Complex. On friday evening the training pool is opened to the public FREE of charge from 6.00 -7.00 pm. However today my son did not get to swim because the pool is closed for Fobissea Primary School Carnival. It was a swimming competition carnival for primary school children of International Schools in South East Asia.

The organisation named FOBISSEA and the host for this carnival is The Alice Smiths School of Kuala Lumpur. It was an interesting swimming competition and I had the opportunity just to see two events (other events were held earlier). How I wish that kind of swimming competition gets the attention of our primary school children. Participants are students of all International Schools in South East Asia including Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. It was a crowd at the pool and on the terrace. I got to witness the relay race whereby it was a backstroke and the concept of introducing the kids the full 50 metre pool on rubber tubes. It was a water confidence training for the kids for is they were to swim backstroke the whole length, they might not be able to make it. The event makes me realise why Malaysian children can't grow up to be world champions.

ASUM should learn from this event and organise one. Its the creativity to instill interest among young kids in swimming. However I saw the secretary of ASUM present since there were Malaysian athletes training in the training pool.

How Near is the 12th General Election?

The talk of the town and kampungs nowadays is that the 12th General Election is just round the corner. Politicians have been gearing up and pulling their socks hoping they will be nominated again for the next term. PM already announced the pay rise for civil servants, the economy is booming, Datuk Seri Anuar Ibrahim will be able to join active politic by 15th April 2008. SPR is recruiting polling officials.

A friend told me that his MB will be going oversea for a working visit. A working visit where? He does not elaborate. But he said that all MBs will be going oversea and the agenda might be shortlisting candidate for the election. PM will meet them later. How true it is or just another khabar angin, we just wait and see if in early Jun, MBs will be going for an oversea "official duty" trip for the sake of the rakyat.
