Paintball Marker - A Matter Of Legality

I was in Labuan this week and speak to some friends about paintball. Recently there was a Paintball Challenge Labuan Open on 1 Febraury 2009. Sports enthusiast especially who played the sport are happy that the sport was a great success. I also came to know that there are three paintball venues around the island. Its a good progress for a small island state.

However on the negative side the sport is put on hold on legal grounds. One of my friend said that those who bought paintball markers during the tourney were visited by the police advising them to apply for a licencse. (Maybe its a fire arm licence, I am not sure).

Now whats the legal aspect of owning a paintball marker. I have no idea of it since I am new to the sport and still using manual house markers for training. Of course in the near future I plan to buy my own marker and the issue if legality is a question mark. Someone who were not licensed to own and/or carry fire arm can carry death sentence. What about paintball marker? Is it on par with the normal airgun?

UPDATED 1 May 2009

I read in PBchat.com.au and found this one information about paintball licencing in Australia. You can read HERE for information.

Nightwing,
Paintball is catching up with the Malaysian Adventuruous Communites. More and more people and corporates groups is playing paintball as part of character training for staffs.

However as far I was informed, paintball is Labuan is being grounded at the moment pending security evaluations.

If you have been in the paintball sports, there is strict rules regarding carrying paintball markers. Players are NOT allowed to carry fully assembled markers outside the playing venue not even to be visibly seen.

If paintball players need to have license to own a paintball marker, I think they will oblighed by the rule. Just that the authority have set clear rules and regulations so that they can abide by the law. Paintball markers won't kill but lethal is shot at close range especially to the soft parts of the body.

Marcus,
I hope the authority will not set atoo stringent law and regulation on paintball markers. If paintballers who own paintball markers are given carry and use only license like track and field starters,it will discourage the development of the sports. Hope the authority will not look into the negative side of the sport.

Based fm information i have gathered, one needs to get a license fm the local police..How? that question remains unanswered.

The rule of thumb for markers is that, you can only have it fully assembled within the compounds of a paintball field.

It needs to be dis assembled once you leave the paintball field compound and never to be fully assembled anywhere else including your house!!!!
