Reason 1
the decision to confer the title on the actor was based on a suggestion by former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin to Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob recently as a means to further promote Malacca owing to the fact that the actor had shot a movie scene here several years ago.
He said the movie One 2 ka 4 was shot at the A Famosa Resort in Alor Gajah in 2001.
“This resulted in many people visiting Malacca since then. The award is given in recognition of this,”
Is Shah Rukh Khan the only actor to had shot a movie in Malacca? How many more local and foreign actors did shot a movie with Malacca as the set and background. So they too is eligibel to be conferred a Datukship?
“Phuket Island is famous as an international tourist destination because of a James Bond movie,” he said, adding that Shah Rukh Khan’s movies have penetrated the European, US and Middle Eastern markets.
My agrument
Did Thailand conferred any award for publicity of that tourist attraction spot?
To shoot a movie is not the work of one but a pool of people but why only one people being honoured for making Malacca famous? How sure is the CM that tourist flocked to Malacca because of the One 2 Ka 4? If that movie is the reason the the person to be conferred the Datukship os not Shah Rukh but the set manager for choosing A Formosa as the set and the Director for making it happens.
Seems that Malacca has belittled the honour of a Datukship. Luckily I am not a Malaccan or else I would be ashamed to have such a CM.
Ammendment
I ammended this part after reading a comment on LKS's blog. A reader posted this comment;
Maybe some big shot’s wife fell in love with him. It always happens in Msia. Some VIP’s wife like a certain thing, shoe polish would quickly act to make everybody like the same thing.
