16 September A Public Holiday

So far only Sabah and Sarawak has had 16th September very year as a public holiday to mark the formation of Malaysia since 1963. Beginning next year all Pakatan Rakyat ruled States was urged to make 16th September every year a public holiday to mark the same event - formation of Malaysia.

The suggestion was made by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Seberang Jaya Expo.

Let us start our celebration on Aug 31 and end it on Sept 16,” he had said in his speech at a thanksgiving feast at the Seberang Jaya Expo site on Sunday to celebrate his victory in the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Anwar had said the Government should declare Sept 16 as a public holiday to mark the anniversary of Malaysia’s formation as it was the day when Sabah and Sarawak joined the country in 1963.

He proposed that all states ruled by Pakatan Rakyat declare the day as a public holiday.- The Star.

Penang is the first state to respond to the suggestion and will make 16th September 2009 onwards as a public holiday.

What about Kuala Lumpur because it is also under Pakatan Rakyat.
