PTPTN - A Blessing or A Burden?

When my daughter was admitted to UiTM in 1999, I felt blessed that the government started PTPTN and I applied the initial amount of RM1500 in cash on behalf of her. Those days all students who are accepted into institution of higher learning will automatically get if they applied. PTPTN was introduced with the aim of helping lessen the burden of parents who has to spend a large sum of money for university entrance. The implementation during the DSAI sacking from the government and the support of the people towards the government was going down at the time. It was a carrot to entice back people (especially the Malays) to support the government from losing its grip on the administration. It was a real blessing for parents who face financial problem to send their children for further studies.

However now the blessing has turn out to as a burden to borrowers and parents. When a borrower finish his/her studies they are not automatically land a job and without a job they have no source of income to repay the loans. I have two daughter who were PTPTN borrowers and both of them are still jobless. I saw one of my daughters account statement and now every month she has to pay an administration fee of 15.63 cents to PTPTN. I am a sekolah atap parent and I don't understand what is the administration fee for? Do they have to check and update my daughters account every day of the month. Her initial balance was 6,250.00 and after 8th month the accumulated amount is now RM 6,375.00 and accumulating because she was asked to pay back the PTPTN loan when she was still in the university. She is now waiting for her result and I just don't know how much longer she will be jobless and yet PTPTN will impose RM 15.63 monthly which for PTPTN is a administration fee but from my point of view it is daylight robbery. Its just another ALONG with legal backing.

Now PTPTN has turn out to be a burden to students and parents instead of a blessing.
