Accepting the influence of the new media, now the government is going to engage bloggers in cyberspace. Does that equivalent fighting the lions in the latter's den?
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will take on bloggers in cyberspace and respond to wild and baseless allegations raised in blogs.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said remaining silent was no longer an option.
He acknowledged that the Government had overlooked the need to engage the new media, which was a new dimension in shaping public opinion, in the recent general election. - The Star
How successful this next encounter remains to be pondered. First why did the people turn to the new media? Secondly will these people return to the MSM to be portrayed in cyberspace? Most people switch to the new media due to its accessibility anywhere all over the world compared to the MSM that is only and mainly available within the country and the one sided report makes people get pissed off. MSM is always whistleblowing the ruling partys agenda even though it is just propaganda to hoodwink the public and they are getting disgusted. The same goes to electronic media.
When the government turn to the new media, how are are they to get back the readers. If the blogs carries the same material that is printed on the MSM, it will be the same. As for sure I did not buy newspaper on a constant basis since 1998. There are bloggers who blog siding the BN but it has been proven that these blog did not manage to convince surfers due to rejection.
