Talking Tourism

Reading Penang.net's posting Federal tourism bureaucracy redundant prompted me to publish this post. FYI, I too publish a tourism related blog HERE. Tourism no doubt needs promotion but in these days physical promotion is not the only medium to advertise any tourism location and places of interest.

Recently Tourism Minister, Datuk Azalina Othman Said, wanted to terminate Tourism agreements with all Opposition-ruled state governments. Childish, do you think so?

A tourism industry insider, who declined to be named, said it made no difference to Penang with or without the PTAC as long as Tourism Malaysia continued to promote the state overseas. However remember that Tourism Malaysia (www.tourism.gov.my) a statutory body of the government and therefore it will be part of the "boycott" tourism in BR's ruled states. The termination clearly show that BN is full of malevolent jealousy and grudge. So are we going to believe what the DPM tell the people of Kelantan pre-election, that BN will not penalize the people who had voted for the opposition before, if they were to return Kelantan to the government.

It is still hot on the table that the last GE's result was partly played by cyber troopers. More and more people are going to the internet for informations since it is more transparent and unfiltered. The same goes with tourism. If the government of Malaysia (read it as Kerajaan Barisan Nasional) is not going to promote Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Perak and Selangor, don't worry because there are lots of information on the internet for people to see and read, so physical promotion by Tourism Malaysia will not be much needed.

Will Tourism Malaysia (a Kerajaan Barisan Nasional entity) try to paint all these BR's states negatively? Langkawi and Penang will definitely be a not to miss destination if tourist were to come to Malaysia. So, will TM tell prospective tourist to Malaysia, don't visit Langkawi and Penang, they are ruled by Iran style religious fanatics and racist government.

Tourism is not a standalone industry. All states will definitely feel the overflow of tourist that come to BN ruled states.

What ever happen to Desaru? It is under the Pengerang constituency. Lets see whether the new Minister will be able to revive tourism at Desaru.

Don't worry, given the opportunity, we bloggers will help advertise, publicise and sell you on the internet (at e-bay too.)
