The Malay Mail on Thursday 27th March carries a news tittled Luggage safety issue to be examined in response to an earlier news Manager loses luggage in ticketing office.
A bank GM's luggage lost his luggage together with his personal documents including his passport, visa, personal documents and his clothings. It happens in broad daylight and at a place where there are many customers around and didn't anyone around suspected anything of what was happening at that moment.
It was reported the Manager arrives at the MAS ticketing office in KL Central and was making changes to his ticket at the counter. The luggage was next to him and within minutes the luggage can be taken in a nick of time. The CCTV footages relate the incident. The footage showed a man and a women involving in the operation.
A friend of mine also experienced the same fate a few weeks ago. He was waiting to check in at a hotel when a lady approached him inquiring something. While he was talking to the lady, the ladies accomplice switched his laptop bag on the floor beside him (together with his other luggage) with with an empty laptop bag. The lady was actually to take away his attention from his luggage so that the accomplice can commit the switch.
There are many victims who might lost their belonging through this kind of modus operandi. So, would it not be better for you to carry your laptop in a backpack rather than the normal laptop bag. A backpack is more difficult to be picked up since it is on your body unless you put it on the floor.
Some times ago people use to place their hand phones on the table when having snacks, or drinks at stalls. This is also another bad practice since criminals are always on the alert preying on their prospective victim.
Men commonly (me inclusive also lor) is easily attracted to young beautiful chicks and these 'robbers' knew how to use her.
Lesson to be learnt: NEVER LEAVE YOUR BELONGING UNATTENDED. EVEN IF IT IS JUST BESIDE YOU DON'T ASSUME IT IS SAFE BECAUSE ANY DISTRACTION ON PURPOSE WILL PART YOU FROM YOUR BELONGINGS.
