Ku Nan, the new Secretary General of UMNO said that Kijal ADUN, Datuk Ahmad Said who has been nominated as the new MB for Terengganu can face disiplinary action by UMNO if he accepts the post. The reason being he is nominated by the palace and deemed denying the order of the President of UMNO who wanted Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh to be MB. The swearing in ceremony will be held this morning (23rd March 2008).
In the Malay culture its is an act of betrayal to disregard the Sultan's order. In this matter it seems that UMNO has the higher authority than the Sultan. The PM 'wanted' DSIJ to be the MB. So the Terengganu Sultan must obey and oblighed by the PM's choice. Terengganu is now ruled by a committee representing the DYMM Yang Dipertuan Agong since the Pemangku Raja is still a child. Eventhough it just a the Regency Advisory Council, they represent the Sultan who is King.
“In accordance with Clause 14 Paragraph (2) (a) of the Terengganu State Constitution (Chapter 2), the Regency Advisory Council, in undertaking the function on behalf of the Regent, hereby appoints Datuk Ahmad Said as the Mentri Besar of Terengganu to head the Terengganu State Executive Council,” said the palace statement released to Bernama at 3.30pm. - The Star
The Prime Minister of Malaysia is elected and consented by the King. Did our PM forget that he was elected by the King who is at the moment was the Sultan of Terengganu? By refusing the MB of the Regency Advisory Council who represent the Regent who is a minor, means that Pak Lah also at the same time showing his disloyal to the Agong, who is the Sultan of Terengganu. Is he becoming Hang Jebat?
