The issue of roti canai cropped up again with the issue of rising price in flour, the main ingredient of making this popular breakfast menu. Utusan Malaysia (online) report that Persatuan Pengusaha Restoran Muslim Malaysia (PPRMM) Johor wanted to stop selling roti canai next week if the rising price of flour is not solved urgently.
For consumer whose preferred breakfast is roti canai, what have you got to loose? Don't tell us that without roti canai we are going to starve for the whole day. Roti canai is just one of the hundreds of breakfast menu we have in Malaysia. So why worry about not having roti canai at your hangout stalls. The only party that will loose out are they, whose income depend on selling roti canai. We have nothing to loose. There are still many more choice to pick for your breakfast. We as consumer must be firm so as to protect our rights. The tendency of businesses raising the price and at times go against the governments advice is that we as consumer support them.
It is true that the roti canai seller want to make a living too but if they are going to threaten the government and us as consumer by stopping selling the food, then let then do it. How long can they close shop. No doubt increase in price for commodities can't be controlled since it is based on world market price. But the antics of these people is just too much. For example an increase of a kilo of flour is 10 cents, the price of a piece of roti canai is also 10 cents. So selling just one piece has already covered the increase and the other few roti canai from the same kilo of flour is totally free profit without any capital. Is this fair for the consumer? The tidak apa (never mind) attitude of consumers is regretted and this encourage the seller to increase price.
Tak makan roti canai cannot mati la, bro...........
