The latest news about Malaysian Proton is its new market in China. Gen II which fail to capture the market locally is deemed to be a hot item in the land of the Great Wall. I am not sure whether it is true or not that Gen II did not undergo the necessary test before it is launched because they are trying to outdo Myvi and capture the market when the latter is about to launch sometime ago.
To break into the China market, Proton has to disguise the car as Europestar instead of Gen II. Just like all other cars exported to European countries, they have to change the name instead of the actual brand. What a boast by Proton locally when the name can't stand with other car manufacturer of the world. This shows that Malayian brand name cannot withstand international economic challenge.

The car imported by Youngman, China's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer that has been awarded a licence from the Chinese authorities to produce passenger vehicles. The luxury coach and truck maker not only have a wealth of experience in the Chinese market but has also formulated aggressive plans for its new "EUROPESTAR" brand.
Maverick SM says, But why named our car EuropeStar? Aren't Proton proud to be MalaysiaStar or BumiStar or MalayStar; why Europe? Aren't we changing to Western culture? Isn't this anti-Malaysian and betrayal of our own identity? Where are those UMNO MPs who talks so much about patriotism, nationalism and traitorism?

The first batch of 384 units of Gen.2 cars, rebranded as EuropeStar , was shipped yesterday. NST reported that a total of 1,600 units of Gen.2 are scheduled to be shipped to China by the end of next month. (NST BizNews, pg36). However, the StarBiz reported that Proton has shipped 408 units to date, and will be shipping 1,500 units monthly over the next 20 months to fulfill the order of 30,000 units.

China Car Times
China Car Times was originally under the impression that the Proton Gen2 was renamed Europestar for the Chinese market, as Chinese people really cant say Gen2, but now it seems more like Europestar is actually Chinas latest brand to hit the road.
Why Proton?.....Eurostar?.
Proton Singapore
Proton's debut in China with Europestar RCR.
That's the first issue which does not raise any major huhahs among us Malaysian. what is there in a name? Its the price. It is said that the price of a Europestar @ Gen II in China will be much cheaper and if I am not mistaken, I read somewhere (will update if i find that information again) it is much cheaper than our Perodua Kancil. OMG. Kera dihutan disusui, anak sendiri mati kelaparan. Don't tell us Malaysians that export quality materials are cheaper than local market products. Malaysia Boleh!!

we r proud to tell the world that proton Wira (1996) is Malaysian car?
but is it?
people know that from Saga to Wira r base on Mitsubishi car manufacture..
1. y r we proud of something that aren't ours?
2. on Mitsubishi site, aren't they felt un-patriotism when Malaysian change their car's name to Malaysian name?
Get my point..?
The thing is, y bother what name it was given for the matter of fact that people already know who's car it was. As long as Mitsubishi get the profits, go ahead, change what ever name we wist to..
n now, it's our turn to produce, sell n get profits. Change the name, it is still Malaysian...
people will still know that fact...
Chinese can;t say Gen2 but can say Eurostar?
Interesting.
