It was reported in Harian Metro that there are certain parties not happy with the participation of DPMM FC from Brunei in the Malaysia Cup. Their argument is that Malaysia Cup should be reserved among Malaysian states team and let DPMM FC only take part at the League level only. I only read from the paper and from my point of view their objection is due to jealousy (kera di hutan disusukan, anak di rumah mati tak makan and entah 'ilmu' apa yang sudah dikenakan) and not for the development of football. Whether its a club or a state, if they are qualified to be in the competition why bar them. At least the states team have to double their effort not to be humiliated by a club team. If we want to develop our national football team, we need to expose players at the lowest level.
There's nothing wrong to invite neighbouring states or clubs as a gesture of goodwill. By inviting them we are lifting the status of Malaysia Cup to international level. By going international it is a blessing in disguise to help uplift the standard of Malaysian footballers. Why must we think like a frog under a coconut shell and think that we are only the better team in South East Asia and hence keep excitement amongst ourselves.
Sometimes ago Singapore was among the participating teams in our local league including the Malaysia Cup and the cup crossed the Johore Causeway a few times and it is the duty of all the states in Malaysia to fight and bring it back to Malaysia. Losing the cup to a non Malaysian state or club is a wake up call for our local teams.
Lets think glocally and keeping things to ourself and be selfish. What FAM is doing is something that might be only one of a kind. If it is so then we are the pioneer in the sports of football where we open our own prestigious cup to be competed by the best teams not only in Malaysia but maybe in the region. I see it as development in the sport.

Agree with you. I think they are scare that other nation might win the cup.
Come on lah, by inviting other team, shows where Malaysian team standards are.
Which team in Asia ever had faith in signing malaysian in their team? Last season DPMM had 1 malaysian in their rank and as posted in their website that they will sign 4 malaysian for the new season. So those unhappy people should atleast appreciate what DPMM is offering to Malaysian Football and players welfare too. Atleast those 4 players should not worry about their salaries. No one cared when Brunei was the whipping boys of Malaysian football. Why be unhappy now?
