Brunei - Day 4

Today is my fourth day in Brunei. I had a two hour lecture in the morning and free the whole day after that. For lunch today I had Hainanese Chicken Rice. The first time I had that rice was in a restaurant at Bukit Bintang.

This is the first time I blogged over lunch. Enjoying my chicken rice and next to me is my laptop and I blogged away. The accessibility of FREE WiFi 24 hours at Goldiana Cafe in the hotel is a thumbs up from me. I am not the only one who blogged over lunch, there is also another guy nearby but I am not sure whether he is blogging or surfing something else.

After lunch I thought of going out to Bandar Seri Begawan and do some shopping. However I felt so sleepy and dossed off in my room, until my handphone rings and I saw two missed called from a Brunei number. Yes, its from a friend Mich who I get to know over the internet. We have been communicating through emails and messages in Yahoo Messenger for sometime. I couldn't answer the call since my credit shows RM 00. I wonder how can I get in touch with her but a few minutes later I received an SMS "I am in d hotel."

I quickly jumped out of bed dressed up and go down to the lobby. At first I couldn't see Mich anywhere but after I came out of the Gents, there Mich with a friend. Well, I recognised Mich only through her picture. I took her and her friend up to my room and get acquainted. Please don't get me wrong. No hanky panky.

She asked whether I would like to go out for dinner which I say yes and she suggested going to Kuala Belait. I agreed because she promised to send me back to my hotel after that. I have never been to Kuala Belait or KB as Bruneians call it. I did not expect that KB is quite a distance away from BSB. While on the highway I saw the signboard showing Kuala Belait 92km. Oh, my its quite far. But since we area already on the highway, better proceed. The speed limit was 100 kmph but Mich was driving her Toyota Corolla at 120 -130. Quite a speed for the limit.

We reached Seria on the way before Kuala Belait. Seria is an oil town, just like Serian and Tutong in Sarawak or Kerteh in Terengganu. Oil refineries stands up in the fenced up area. Mich drove into Seria just to show me the town. Its just a small town and then I was caught with a surprise when I saw the Maybank signboard informing that there is a Maybank branch in Seria. I suddenly became a proud Malaysian on the eve of Merdeka to see one of the largest bank in Malaysia has its branch in Brunei. In fact in Bandar Seri Begawan I saw the branch besides the RHB Bank.

Mich took me to a stalls at Simpur and I ordered Nasi Ayam Penyet. As far as I know penyet means to squash. So Nasi Ayam Penyet can be translated boldly into squashed chicken rice. It is just like a normal chicken rice with ulam (raw vegetables) or can we call it salad? to be dipped in hot chilli mix. The sauce mixture was damned hot because the ingredient includes cili padi.

After dinner she drove around KB to show me briefly the town before going back to her house. Mmmmmm. I slept at her house but again nothing hanky panky happens. I slept in the living while she and her friend in the bedroom. She has the tv set in the living room and and served by satellite television. She has the satellite dish that can be connected to more than 800 channels around the world besides four adult channels. You can guess which channels I concentrate on. LOL.
