When I logged in to my laptop I found out my mcAfee anti virus warned that I am not protected. The message appeared for a few days and whenever I tried to update the files I was told that there is not update to be done but the warning still persist. The Security Center tells me that my computer & files and E-mail & IM requires action. So that means both area on my laptop is not protected. While I was trying to send an email to McAfee help center then suddenly a message pop up telling me to check my laptop date. When I check it, I found out that my computer date is 22 December 2007. No wonder McAfee says there's no update to be made. It was actually the expiry date of my McAfee anti virus. So McAfee read it that my contract has expired.
The date does not only affect my McAfee but also the Free AVG anti virus which says that there is no updating to be done when there's a message that my internal anti virus is out of date. After fixing the date from 22 December t0 22 July 2007, everything is settled. My laptop is being protected again and my internal anti virus has been updated. Oh, gosh, how relieved I am.
Thinking back, I think the date was changed by a virus that I contacted from another laptop through my thumb drive. Last week when I was in Malacca, I insert the drive into another laptop for my lecture. After that when I use the same thumb drive on my laptop, it scares me that all the file on the drive was infected with the same virus. I think that virus has been doing cheeky things to my files and registry.
Last year, I used my thumb drive on another laptop and the whole drive was infected with Brontoks virus. Luckily my PcCillin can clean the files without any damage.
Lesson Learnt
If anything suspicious with your program especially those with expiry dates, check and fix your computer date. Don't panic.
