25th April 2007, I signed up for the walk to be flagged of at Dataran Merdeka on 29th April 2007. Actually I had no intention of participating due to my present fitness status. I have been leading a sedentary life since three years ago without any disciplined jogging or exercise regime apart from the normal walking daily. So what the heck do I sign up? I received a minute from my Deputy Director and my name was listed to take part. Well, whatever things happen according to Islam there is a hikmah. Maybe this is the new beginning for me to get myself back in my jogging shoes.
A few years back whenever I go outstation duty, I use to swim in the hotel pool and if there is a jogging area nearby I will jog. But when life gets more hectic, I seem to forget the importance of jogging and exercise. Oh my God!!, I don't preach what I teach.
I hold a Diploma in Fitness from PPJSSKM/CAHPER dated back in 1992, the year when I was t my peak in fitness. That year I was puruing my specialist course at Institut Perguruan Darul Aman in Jitra, Kedah and stay at my school quarters about 4 kilometres away. I cycle to and from class, exercise daily during practical class, swims every week and in the evening join my track and field athletes training. The same year too I sit and passed my IAAF Level 1 Coaching certificate and of course that Diploma I said earlier.
Back to the biggie, I will be participating in the leisure walk category with no intention of winning any prize. It will be a 3 kilometre fun walk and will be joined by names such as Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Datuk K.
You know what? there is a Senior Veteran category for those aged between 50 - 60. I am in that category but as I said, my fitness level does not permit me to be competitive. It is still fresh in my mind when I was blackout barely 10 minutes walking up the jungle path at Bukit Larut 2 years ago.
I will update later after the biggie.
