Johor Flood Victim Aids

The flood that swept nearly all major towns of Johore is something that was not expected. Whenever the monsoon season comes during the North East Monsoon when wind blows from the South China Sea everybody on the East coast such as Kelantan and Terengganu will be ready to face them. But what happen in Johor this year is unexpected.

What is more felt by the people affected is the arrival of the second wave after the first flood recedes and just a day or two after the first flood the second flood came. According to history this second wave flood had happened in our country in December 1968 and the second came in January 1968. What happend at the end of last year can be considered a duplicate of the 1967 flood and brought about the theory of same flood recurrence in a 40 years cycle. Read it here.

Most Malaysians are caring people and is always willing to help the needy such as volunteers, food and other daily needs. I volunteeres myself to give a hand when my employer step in ho help the flood victim. The idea to give aids to the flood victim in Johor was mooted by the Director General during a briefe meeting with all the officers. Following which an ad-hoc committee was set up to organise and see how we can help them.

The first group was despatched to Batu Pahat on 20th January 2007 and that date coincide with the 1st of Muharram (first day of the Islamic calendar).

We left the National Sports Complex at 8.30 in the morning in two vehicles and arrived Batu Pahat at about 11.45. We headed to Simpang Tengah in Parit Raja to rest before proceeding to our destination that is tha flood evacuation centre in Sri Pandan.

There were 322 evacuees at the centre during our visit. Read about our trip here in Bahasa Malaysia
